RD Build Model : l’histoire d’un projet né d’une amitié

RD Build Model: the story of a project born from a friendship. This is exactly what happened with RD Build Model, a project born from the meeting between Daniel Rinaldi and Ivan Romanzi.

We therefore wanted to give the floor to Daniel Rinaldi, so that he can tell us the story of RD Build Model, his vision of modeling and the many projects that are being built today around this adventure.

RD Build Model: the story of a project born from a friendship

RD Build Model: the story of a project born from a friendship much more than a group of modelers

Danilo: Let's start with the name. What is RD Build Model today?

Daniel: Today, RD Build Model is a project that revolves around automobile modeling, but to define it simply as a group of modelers would be simplistic. It was born from our passion, from the relationship between Ivan and I, as well as our desire to share what we do. Over time, it transformed into something more structured, with content, projects, commissions, events and an educational dimension.

Danilo: However, as we told in the interview with Ivan, it all started from a fairly chance meeting on social networks.

Daniel: Yes, and that is precisely what is quite surprising. If someone had told us at the beginning that this would all come from a simple conversation on social media, we probably wouldn't have believed them. Ivan had contacted me because he needed some information on model making. I replied to him, we started talking and, little by little, a relationship was born, going well beyond a simple exchange of information.

Danilo: When did you realize that you could build something together?

Daniel: I think it happened gradually. The more we talked, the more we realized that we had a compatible vision. Not necessarily the same way of doing everything, but the same desire to progress, to experiment and above all to share. It was from there that the idea of giving a concrete form to all of this was born.

Danilo: And that’s how RD Build Model was born.

Daniel: Exactly. And I find that the term “Build” represents well what we want to do. It’s not just about building models, but also about building a journey. A model is built piece by piece. A project like RD Build Model works in the same way: we add an experience, a person, a collaboration, content, a show and, little by little, the project takes shape.

Show the process, not just the result

In model making, a spectacular result only tells part of the story.

Preparation of parts, adjustments, gluing, sanding, painting, photoetching, detailing and even corrections are an integral part of the work. It is precisely these steps that RD Build Model wishes to convey through its content.

For these technical operations, having reliable products becomes essential. It is in particular with this logic that the solutions SUPER GLUE Colle21 find their place in the workshop: allowing modelers to adapt their collage to the materials, surfaces and the desired level of precision.

Danilo: One of your characteristics is precisely this desire to show the work, and not just the final result.

Daniel: Absolutely. For me, this is one of the most important things. When you look at a finished model, you see the result, but you don't see all the decisions behind it. We don't see the times when a painting did not give the desired result, the room that had to be redone, the surface that had to be corrected or the hours spent looking for the right solution. We also want to tell all this.

Danilo: So your content is more than just saying, “Look how beautiful this model is. »

Daniel: No. A beautiful model can attract attention, but in my opinion, it's everything behind it that can really bring something to the person looking at it. This is why we are developing technical content a lot. If anyone encounters a problem with a mask, paint, varnish, photoetched or decal, I would like them to be able to find a concrete solution with us.

YouTube: transmitting concrete solutions to modelers

RD Build Model places an important place on transmission.

The objective is not only to present beautiful achievements, but to show the techniques used and the solutions to resolve the difficulties encountered during construction.

This approach also corresponds to the philosophy of SUPER GLUE Colle21 : there is not always a single glue suitable for all situations. Depending on the material, the surface, the setting speed or the type of assembly, the model maker must be able to choose the most suitable solution.

Danilo: And that brings us directly to YouTube.

Daniel: Yes. YouTube is a fundamental tool for us, because it allows us to go much further than with a simple publication. We have already noticed that videos in which we address specific problems and concrete techniques generate a lot of interest. This made us understand that we needed to focus even more on content that was truly useful to modelers.

Danilo: So, not necessarily videos dedicated to building a model from start to finish?

Daniel: Exactly. Especially since modeling works at completely different rhythms from those of digital content. A 1/24 scale car can take several weeks of work. If we wait until we have finished everything before talking about it, we risk spacing out the content too much. This is why we want to tell the projects through the problems encountered and the techniques used during the work.

Different scales for different approaches

Automotive modeling allows you to explore very different techniques depending on the scale chosen.

RD Build Model wants to use this diversity to offer complementary content: some faster and more accessible, others much more technically in-depth.

Danilo: And that’s also where the idea of new content dedicated to 1/43 scale cars was born?

Daniel: Yes. The 1/43 can become a real, very interesting laboratory. These are smaller models, faster to work with, which allow us to create dynamic content without leaving our universe. We can take a car, start from the original model and show how far we can transform it through preparation, painting, detailing and different modifications. And above all, each video can tell a complete story, without forcing the viewer to follow a series of ten episodes.

Danilo: And 1/24?

Daniel: 1/24 remains the technical heart of RD Build Model. This is the scale on which we have built much of our experience and on which we can carry out very in-depth work. 1/43 can be a gateway, while 1/24 represents the level of precision and technicality that we want to continue to develop.

Danilo: And then there are special projects, like 1/8 scale creations.

Daniel: Yes, and these projects have yet another function. They require a lot of time, but that's precisely why they can show the most complex part of our work: significant modifications, reconstructions, transformations and techniques that we rarely see in traditional model making.

SUPER GLUE products Colle21 suitable for precision work

When a project becomes more technical, the choice of products used takes on even more importance.

In their achievements, RD Build Model uses SUPER GLUE products Colle21, which allow them to have different solutions depending on the nature of the work to be carried out.

Rapid assembly of a small part, more controlled gluing, elements requiring more positioning time, small surfaces or precision work: having several viscosities and several setting speeds allows the product to be adapted to the project.

The range SUPER GLUE Colle21 includes various cyanoacrylate glues as well as additional products intended to facilitate the work of the model maker.

This diversity makes it possible to not systematically use the same glue for each operation, but on the contrary to select the solution that really corresponds to the material and the desired result.

This is a particularly important principle in automobile modeling, where the same creation can bring together plastic, metal, photoetched, resin and different detailing elements.

RD Build Model Academy: learn to understand the techniques

The transmission of knowledge also constitutes an essential part of the RD Build Model project.

Beyond videos and publications, the Academy must allow modelers to go further in their learning and understand not only how to carry out an operation, but also why a technique or product is used.

Danilo: The Academy is also an important project.

Daniel: Yes. The Academy represents for us the most structured educational part. YouTube can help explain a specific technique. The Academy, for its part, can support a person on a more complete journey, by structuring the information and the working method. The goal is not just to say, “Do this. » We also want to explain why you make this choice and how to think when faced with a problem.

Trade shows: model making remains above all a story of encounters

Social networks and video content have profoundly changed the way in which model enthusiasts can communicate.

But for RD Build Model as for Colle21, lounges remain irreplaceable.

They allow you to meet the model makers directly, to discuss the techniques used, to present their creations and to create relationships which sometimes go well beyond the professional framework.

Danilo: How important are trade shows to you?

Daniel: They are very important. Because model making is also a question of human relations. Online, you can meet a lot of people, but finding yourself in front of a stand, discussing a model, seeing a technique live or simply exchanging a few words completely changes the relationship. The exhibitions allow us to raise awareness of RD Build Model in a much more direct way, while meeting people and players in the sector with whom new collaborations can sometimes arise.

RD Build Model and SUPER GLUE Colle21 : a collaboration that has become a human relationship

The collaboration between RD Build Model and SUPER GLUE Colle21 is not just about the presence of products on a workbench.

Over time, trade shows, projects and meetings have created a relationship based on a common passion for model making and the desire to transmit this passion to an ever-widening community.

Danilo: And among these actors, there is also Colle21.

Daniel: Yes. Collaboration with Colle21 is important to us, but what I particularly appreciate is that over time, it has not been limited to simple collaboration around products. Relationships were created, friendships, opportunities to meet and common projects. And that’s precisely what makes our universe so interesting.

Danilo: Ultimately, we always come back to people.

Daniel: Yes. This is something I’ve understood more and more over time. Model making can seem like a very individual activity: you sit at your workbench, with your model and tools, and work alone for hours. But in reality, behind this passion is a huge community. And many of the most beautiful things that have happened to me thanks to model making have come from the people I have met.

Building a reference in automobile modeling

RD Build Model wishes to continue to develop its universe without losing what has constituted the essence of the project from the start: passion, technique, transmission and human relations.

Danilo: If you had to explain in a few words what you want to build with RD Build Model, what would you say?

Daniel: I would like to build a real reference in the field of automobile modeling, without losing the human dimension. A place, physical or digital, where a model maker could find technique, experience, inspiration and above all people with whom to exchange.

Danilo: And the future?

Daniel: I see the future as gradual growth. YouTube, technical content, the Academy, orders, events, collaborations and new projects. I don't want to do things just so I can say we did them. I want each new step to have meaning and really contribute to building something.

Danilo: So, if you had to sum up this whole journey in one sentence?

Daniel: I would say that RD Build Model was born from a passion, grew through a friendship and now wants to become something that can be shared with a wider community. Because in the end, we are used to building automobile models. But the most important project that we build, piece by piece, is precisely the RD Build Model.

RD Build Model, Colle21 and a common passion for model making

RD Build Model: the story of a project born from a friendship perfectly shows that model making goes far beyond the simple construction of a model.

It is a universe made up of techniques, research, learning, but above all meetings.

Daniel Rinaldi and Ivan Romanzi are gradually building a project in which knowledge sharing plays an essential role. YouTube videos, Academy, exhibitions, commissions and special projects are all ways of transmitting their experience.

This vision also explains the proximity between RD Build Model and SUPER GLUE Colle21.

To create a model with precision, each step counts and the choice of product must adapt to the work to be done. The different solutions SUPER GLUE Colle21 allow modelers to select the collage best suited to their materials, techniques and projects.

And because this passion must also be able to be transmitted through stores and professionals in the sector, Colle21 also supports professional resellers and distributors wishing to offer the range to their customers.

Passionate, professionals, content creators, clubs, stores and model makers: it is around this community that the projects continue to be built. RD Build Model and Colle21.
